Image
Umaria, Madhya Pradesh – Back-to-back incidents near railway tracks in Umaria district have raised serious safety concerns. On 6th August , a truck went out of control near Birsinghpur Pali station , broke through the boundary, and reached the railway tracks. Shockingly, just 36 days later on 11th September , another truck accident occurred near Signal Tola , only a short distance from Umaria station . Truck Stuck on Tracks for Hours According to reports, a heavily loaded truck suffered a broken axle and got stuck right in the middle of the railway tracks. Rail traffic was disrupted for several hours until the vehicle was finally removed with the help of a crane. Coincidence or Security Failure? ₹136 Crore ‘Akashkot Water Supply Project’ Still Incomplete – Dam Full, Villages Thirsty

Image
Despite record-breaking rainfall this year that left the Umarar Dam almost overflowing , the much-publicized ₹136.49 crore Akashkot drinking water project remains unfinished. Even with water stored in the reservoir, 22 villages under Akashkot are still struggling for safe drinking water . Minister’s Rebuke Went in Vain Nearly six months ago, district in-charge minister Nagar Singh Chauhan reprimanded water department officials for the delay. However, the ground reality remains unchanged. The project is running at least one year behind schedule , with over 40% of work incomplete . Most shocking of all – not a single drop of water has reached Akashkot yet . Power Supply & Pumping Challenges One of the major technical hurdles is lifting water uphill from the dam to the villages. Officials estimate that the system will require around ₹15 lakh every month for electricity bills . But both the three-phase power connection and the pumping infrastructure are still pending. Farmers ...

BJP Organization Formation in Umaria Stalled, Growing Discontent Among Workers

Image
Umaria (Madhya Pradesh Politics News): The organizational framework of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Umaria district remains incomplete, even months after the appointment of a district president. The delay in announcing Mandal (block) presidents and the district working committee has sparked visible discontent among local BJP workers. Deadlines Missed, Workers Frustrated According to party sources, observers recently toured Umaria, consulted senior office-bearers, and submitted a panel of recommended names to the BJP state headquarters in Bhopal. The deadline for final announcements was set for August 18–19 , but no decisions have been made so far. Workers claim the delay is a result of internal lobbying, recommendations, and conflicting preferences within different factions of the party. Concerns have also been raised about deviations from BJP’s established principles such as the “one post, one person” rule and the balancing of local social and caste equations . Impact on BJ...

Mushroom Picking Sparks Political Storm in Bandhavgarh, Half a Dozen Villagers Jailed

Image
Umaria, Madhya Pradesh — A simmering conflict in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve has exploded into a major political controversy after six villagers were sent to jail for allegedly collecting pihri (wild mushrooms). Tradition vs. Criminalization The arrested villagers argue that mushroom collection has been a part of their cultural tradition and a key source of livelihood for generations. “Picking pihri is our natural right, not a crime. Now we are being trapped and punished for following our tradition,” said one villager. Small Villagers Targeted, Big Violations Ignored Locals allege that while poor tribals are punished for collecting wild mushrooms, large-scale destruction of forests and construction of hotels and resorts continue unchecked. “They jail us for mushrooms, but hush up the real damage caused by timber cutting and resort construction,” complained a resident. Long-Standing Officials Under Scrutiny The spotlight is also on forest officers who have been posted in...

Illegal Logging and Hotel Boom in Bandhavgarh: The Real Issue Lost in Departmental Tug-of-War By Sadanand Joshi | Field Report, Umaria (Madhya Pradesh) Bandhavgarh National Park, one of Madhya Pradesh’s most celebrated tiger reserves, is under dual assault. On the one hand, vast stretches of teak and sal forests in Dhaukhadar Forest Range—especially in Raipur beat areas of Sagmanih, Patparia, Ghinonchiha, and Kudri—have been reduced to stumps after large-scale illegal logging. On the other hand, nearly 80 hotels and resorts have mushroomed on the park’s fringes. But the matter is not just about trees falling or resorts rising. At the heart of the controversy lies a deceptively simple question: Is this land forest land—or revenue land? Background: A Shrinking Forest A warning was published on July 4, 2025, that Bandhavgarh’s forests were fast disappearing. The latest scenes from Dhaukhadar confirm the fear. Thousands of mature teak and sal trees now stand as lifeless stumps—star...
